A climb at your own pace
The argument for a private trek is not exclusivity, it is tempo. On a shared departure the group moves at the speed of the group. If that is faster than you want at four in the morning, there is nothing to be done about it. Here the guide is yours, and the pace is set by whoever in your party finds it hardest.
That changes the climb more than the price suggests. Travellers who were feeling under the weather, or who wanted to stop for photographs, describe guides simply adjusting around them — which is only possible when nobody else is waiting.
Your group climbs alone
A licensed guide for your party only, which sets the pace to the slowest person in it and nobody else.
Villas as well as hotels
The pickup list covers accommodation across south Bali, including the villa addresses that defeat some transfers.
A substantial breakfast at the crater
Cakes, sandwiches, eggs, fruit and hot drinks, carried up and served on the rim.
Poles and a head light provided
Both come out of the guide’s pack at the base, along with bottled water.
You choose the route down
The listing makes the descent your decision rather than the group’s, which matters when your legs have had enough.
Collected from your villa, 01:30 to 03:00
The pickup list is unusually wide and it is published by zone: Nusa Dua and Jimbaran at 01:30; Kuta, Canggu, Legian, Seminyak and Sanur at 02:00; Ubud at 02:30; Kintamani at 03:00. Lovina and Candidasa are separate grades. The listing names villas as well as hotels. That matters if you are staying somewhere a driver cannot find on a map at two in the morning.
- 01:30 – 03:00 — private pickup from your accommodation, by zone
- 03:15 — arrival at the trailhead and a briefing with your own guide
- 03:30 — the climb starts, at your group’s pace
- 05:30 — the crater rim, and breakfast while the sky changes
- 06:00 — sunrise over Agung and Abang
- 07:00 — the descent, by whichever route your guide recommends
- 09:00 — private transfer back to your accommodation
Breakfast at the crater: cakes, sandwiches, eggs and fruit
Breakfast here is more than the usual banana sandwich. The listing names cakes, sandwiches, eggs, fruit and hot drinks, all carried up by the guide and served on the rim once you stop. Bottled water comes with the fare, which is worth knowing because you will drink more than you expect on the way up.
Who this private trek suits, and who should choose a group departure instead
Book this one if…
Couples and small parties who want the summit without a stranger setting the tempo. It suits anyone nervous about holding a group up, and travellers staying in a villa in the south. It is also the answer if you want a mount batur volcano tour somewhere the shared transfers do not reach.
Book something else if…
Solo travellers watching the budget, and anyone who enjoys the company of a group at altitude. The shared sunrise hike costs $33 and adds a hot-spring grade this listing does not carry.

Know before you go
- The booking widget sets the ages. Adults are 15 to 50 and children 7 to 14, with up to five children per booking. Check yours before you pay.
- This listing has no hot-spring grade. If a soak on Lake Batur is part of the plan, book a departure that includes it rather than hoping to add it.
- Private means the guide, not the mountain. You will still share the summit with everyone who came up that morning.
- Bring a jacket you can climb without. You will be warm walking and cold standing at 1,717 metres.
- The descent takes longer than you expect. Loose scoria in daylight; take the pole and use it.
- Kintamani pickup is 03:00. If you are already staying in the caldera the night is much shorter than it looks.
What walkers say about this private trek
Picked up at 1:30 exactly. I told the guide I was feeling under the weather and he set the pace to me for the rest of the climb.
Edward B. · Solo traveller · February 2025
Jata held my pace and we were up in about an hour, with a good spot and a proper breakfast waiting for the sunrise. The driver arrived exactly on time.
Koen K. · Solo traveller · October 2023
Cloudy on top, but walking up in the dark was its own reward. I am of moderate fitness and simply took a little longer than the others.

Frequently asked questions
What does private actually mean here?
Your group travels alone and climbs with its own guide, so the pace and the route down are yours. The summit itself is shared with everyone else on the mountain that morning, because there is one sunrise and one rim.
Does this tour include the hot springs?
No. The fare covers the guide, the transfer, the equipment and breakfast, and the listing carries no hot-spring grade. If you want the soak, the sunrise hike and hot spring tour includes it on the right grade.
Will the driver find my villa?
The listing names villas as well as hotels among the accommodation it collects from, across Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta, Canggu, Legian, Seminyak, Sanur, Ubud and Kintamani. Send the address and a map pin when you book rather than the villa name alone.
What is provided, and what should I bring?
A walking pole, a head light, bottled water and breakfast are provided. Bring closed shoes with grip, a warm layer for the top, and cash for tips, which the fare does not include.
How long is the whole thing?
About eight hours door to door, most of it driving. The climb takes roughly two hours up and ninety minutes down, and a 01:30 pickup in the far south has you back by late morning.
Can children come?
The booking widget carries a children's band of 7 to 14, with up to five per booking. Below that age the climb is not realistic, and the jeep adventure takes children from two.
