Book two or three days ahead; pickups are assigned by area the evening before and every departure here refunds in full up to 24 hours out. Expect a fare between $20 and $41, and expect the add-on grades — hot springs, ATV, rafting, a cafe stop — to move it.
Dress for an open vehicle at altitude before dawn. You will be sitting still in wind at around 1,360 metres, and the blankets some drivers carry are a kindness rather than a guarantee. Getting there has the pickup windows by area.
If the reason you are coming is the summit marker, the crater rim path or the eggs cooked in the steam vents, book a trek instead. None of those three is on a jeep route, and no amount of paying more will put them there.
